Old Fashioned Soft Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Topping
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

1. Cream together shortening, sugar and brown sugar.
2. Mix in egg.
3. Mix in buttermilk and vanilla.
4. Combine the dry ingredients. and stir into creamed mixture.
5.Chill dough for 1 hour.
6. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls 2" apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
7. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle on top of cookie dough.
8. Bake at 400° for 7-9 minutes.

Makes approximately 4 dozen 2" cookies.
