Sugar Crusted Biscuit Puffs

Another recipe I found in my old yellow recipe box I've had since the 70's. I didn't look in that for a lot of years after I got busy with raising kids and other important things. But now it's like finding a little treasure with recipes from my mother who's not here anymore. This recipe is on an old index card that is yellowed. It's in my Mom's handwriting. She used to write down recipes she liked, and mail them to me after I got married.

These are a sweet treat that would be perfect on a holiday or party table.

Filling
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1/4 cup raisins
1 tablespoon butter 1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
1 egg, separated (reserve white for topping)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons rum

Topping
Reserved egg white
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup finely chopped nuts
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoons rum

Pastry
10 ounce can Refrigerated Flaky Biscuits

In small bowl combine all filling ingredients. Separate dough into 10 biscuits. Roll each one into a 4" circle. Spoon 1 tablespoon filling onto each circle. Fold dough over filling covering completely. Seal well, shaping into balls.

Combine reserve egg white and rum, beat until foamy.

Combine1/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup nuts, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Dip top and sides (not seam) of each filled biscuit in egg white mixture, then in nut mixture. Place seam down on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 375° for 16 minutes until golden brown.
